Accord (pronounced ACK-ord) is a small community in Ulster County, New York, United States. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is a special area the government defines for gathering information about people.

Accord is located in the eastern part of the Town of Rochester. You can find it along US 209. This community is important because it's where the town government of Rochester is located. In 2020, about 573 people lived in Accord. The local ZIP code, 12404, covers a larger area than just the CDP itself.

History of Accord

Accord was once a town along the Delaware and Hudson Canal. It was first called Port Jackson. The name "Accord" has an interesting story. People say the townspeople asked the government in Albany for a new name. The authorities couldn't agree on one, so they decided to call the town "Accord." This means they couldn't come to an "accord" or agreement.

Ancient Discoveries

In 2004, an important discovery was made in Accord. It's called the 'Mettacahonts Creek Find'. Scientists are still studying this site. There is evidence that tools found here might be from a time even earlier than when we thought humans first arrived in North America.

More than 200 items were found in excellent condition. Many of these stone tools are similar, and some are very large. This is unusual for ancient sites in North America. Experts believe people used this site for thousands of years. The collection of these ancient tools is owned by a private person.
