Accumoli is a small town, also called a comune (municipality), in the Lazio region of Italy. It is located in the Province of Rieti, about 110 kilometers (68 miles) northeast of Rome. Accumoli is also about 45 kilometers (28 miles) northeast of the city of Rieti.

This town is special because it sits inside a beautiful natural park called the "Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park". Accumoli is high up in the mountains, at an altitude of 855 meters (2,805 feet) above sea level. It's in the Apennine mountains, which run through Italy. Even though it's in the Rieti province, it's like a small island surrounded by the province of Ascoli Piceno. Before 1927, Accumoli was part of the Aquila province in another region called Abruzzo.

The weather in Accumoli is typical for mountains. Winters are cold and snowy, which is great for winter sports. Summers are usually not too hot, making it a nice place to visit.

History of Accumoli

The town of Accumoli began a long time ago, in the 12th century. At that time, the area around the Valle del Tronto was ruled by a group called the Italo-Normans. Later, it became part of a larger kingdom known as the Kingdom of Naples.

On August 24, 2016, a strong earthquake hit central Italy. Many buildings in Accumoli were damaged or destroyed during this event. The town has been working to rebuild since then.
