Achacachi is a town located high up in the Andes mountains, on a flat area called the Altiplano plateau. It's in the La Paz Department of Bolivia. This town is also the main city of the Omasuyos Province.
Achacachi's History
Achacachi was a settlement even before the Spanish arrived in South America. Old official papers written by Spanish authorities describe it. Achacachi was once the capital of a "señorio" (a type of local kingdom) called Pacasa. This area was known as "Umasuyus," which means "shore side" in the Aymara language. It was located along the eastern side of Lake Intikjarka, also known as Lake Titicaca, on the plateau between Peru and Bolivia.

Achacachi is very high up, at an elevation of 3,854 meters (about 12,647 feet) above sea level. It sits on the Achacachi peninsula, which is on the eastern shores of Lake Titicaca. The town is about 96 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of La Paz, the capital city.

Achacachi's Climate
Achacachi has a cool climate because it's so high up in the mountains. The weather changes throughout the year, but it's generally cold. The warmest months are usually October and November, while the coldest are June and July.
The town gets most of its rain during the summer months, from December to March. The driest time of year is during the winter, from May to August. Even though it's high up, the humidity stays fairly consistent throughout the year.
