Early Life and Learning
Adam Garnet Jones was born in Calgary, Alberta. He has Cree, Métis, and Danish family roots. He grew up in Edmonton and British Columbia.
He went to the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. Later, he moved to Toronto, Ontario. There, he studied film at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University).
Film and TV Career
After finishing film school, Adam's short film Cloudbreaker was shown. It premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. He also helped run a film and video program for young people. This program was part of Toronto's Inside Out Film and Video Festival.
Adam made other short films like A Small Thing, Wave a Red Flag, and Liar. He also wrote an episode for the TV series Cashing In. He was a writer and story editor for the TV show Mohawk Girls.
First Feature Film: Fire Song
His first full-length movie was Fire Song. It was first shown at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Fire Song later won "Audience Choice" awards at four different film festivals. This included the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival.
Second Film: Great Great Great
Adam's second film, Great Great Great, premiered in March 2017. It was shown at the Canadian Filmmakers' Festival. The movie won three of the festival's top awards. These included Best Feature, Best Screenplay, and Best Performance.
Great Great Great was released in movie theaters that same year. In 2018, Adam and Sarah Kolasky were nominated for an award. They were recognized for Best Original Screenplay at the 6th Canadian Screen Awards.

In 2018, Adam published his first young adult novel. It was an adaptation of his movie Fire Song. The book was a finalist for the Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Literature.
In 2019, the Fire Song novel won a Bronze Medal. This was for Young Adult Fiction at the Independent Publisher Book Awards.
In 2020, a book called Love After the End was published. It is a collection of short stories. Adam wrote a story for it called "History of the New World." This story imagines a future Earth. It explores how Indigenous culture can help people face big global problems.
