Adam Garnet Jones is a Canadian filmmaker and writer. He was born around 1982 or 1983. His movies and stories often focus on the lives and experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Since 2021, he has worked at APTN. He helps create TV shows and special events for the network.

Early Life and Learning

Adam was born in Calgary, Alberta. He has Cree, Métis, and Danish family roots. He grew up in Edmonton and British Columbia.

He went to the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. Later, he moved to Toronto, Ontario. There, he studied film at Ryerson University, which is now called Toronto Metropolitan University.

Making Movies and TV Shows

After finishing university, Adam's short film Cloudbreaker was shown at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival in 2006. He also helped run a film program for young people at the Inside Out Film and Video Festival in Toronto.

He made other short films like A Small Thing, Wave a Red Flag, and Liar. He also wrote an episode for the TV show Cashing In. He was a writer and story editor for the TV series Mohawk Girls.

His first full-length movie, Fire Song, was shown at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Fire Song won Audience Choice awards at four different film festivals. One of these was the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival.

Jones' second movie, Great Great Great, was first shown in March 2017. This was at the Canadian Filmmakers' Festival. It won three top awards there: Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Performance. Great Great Great was released in movie theaters that same year. In 2018, Adam and Sarah Kolasky were nominated for an award. It was for Best Original Screenplay at the 6th Canadian Screen Awards.

Writing Books

In 2018, Adam published his first young adult novel. It was a book version of his movie Fire Song. The novel was a finalist for the Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Literature. In 2019, the Fire Song novel won a Bronze Medal for Young Adult Fiction. This was at the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

In 2020, a book called Love After the End: An Anthology of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction was published. It includes a short story by Adam called "History of the New World." This story explores a future world and how Indigenous culture can help people deal with big global problems.

Other Creative Work

Adam also creates beautiful beadwork jewelry. He sells his art online through an Etsy shop. Some of his jewelry pieces have even been used in the TV show Rutherford Falls.
