Adam Wade Gontier (born May 25, 1978) is a Canadian rock musician. He is best known as the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and a founding member of the rock band Three Days Grace. He also sings and plays guitar for the band Saint Asonia.
Adam helped start Three Days Grace in 1992. He recorded four albums with them. He left the band in 2013 but returned in 2024. Adam has also worked with other bands. These include Art of Dying, Apocalyptica, Breaking Benjamin, and Skillet.

Early Life
Adam Gontier was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. His birthday is May 25, 1978. He spent his early years in Markham, Ontario. After his parents separated, he moved back to the Peterborough area.
In 1992, he moved to Norwood. There, he went to Norwood District High School. This is where he met and became friends with Neil Sanderson and Brad Walst. They would later form Three Days Grace together.
Career
Three Days Grace (1992–2013, 2024–present)
Adam Gontier, Neil Sanderson, and Brad Walst started a band called "Groundswell" in 1992. They were still in high school in Norwood. In 1997, Adam, Neil, and Brad formed a new band called "Three Days Grace".
The band signed with Jive Records. Their first hit song was "I Hate Everything About You". Their first album, Three Days Grace, came out in 2003. Their second album, One-X, was released in 2006. It became very popular.
Their third album, Life Starts Now, came out in 2009. It was their highest-charting album in the US. In 2012, they released their fourth album, Transit of Venus.
Adam Gontier left Three Days Grace on January 9, 2013. This happened just before the band was going on tour. Matt Walst, the brother of bassist Brad Walst, became the new lead singer.
Adam later joined Three Days Grace on stage for a few songs in 2023. On October 3, 2024, it was announced that Adam Gontier officially rejoined the band. Both Adam and Matt Walst will now be singers for Three Days Grace. They are currently working on new music together.
Solo Music (2012–2014)
Adam Gontier also performed as a solo artist. He opened for other singers like Martin Sexton and Citizen Cope. He continued to play solo shows and concerts. During this time, he released several songs, but not as official singles. In 2013, he started his "Adam Gontier Solo Live Tour."
Saint Asonia (2015–present)
In April 2014, Adam Gontier started writing songs with Staind guitarist Mike Mushok. They didn't plan to start a band at first. But their music caught the attention of RCA Records.
They then added Rich Beddoe, a drummer from Finger Eleven. Corey Lowery, a bassist from Dark New Day, also joined. On May 15, 2015, their first song, "Better Place", was released.
Their first album, Saint Asonia, came out on July 31, 2015. In 2019, they released their second album, Flawed Design. In 2022, they released two EPs (smaller albums) called Introvert and Extrovert. These were later released together as Introvert/Extrovert.
Other Music Projects
Adam Gontier has worked with many other musicians and bands. He has written songs and performed with artists like Daughtry and Ben Burnley.
In 2006, Adam was part of a supergroup called Big Dirty Band. This band included famous musicians like Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. They covered the song "I Fought the Law" for a movie soundtrack.
He also sang on the song "I Don't Care" for Apocalyptica's album Worlds Collide in 2007. In 2009, Adam worked with Daughtry on their album Leave This Town.
In 2011, Adam Gontier started his own record label, Sludge Factory Records. He signed three bands to his label. He also sang on the song "Raining" by the band Art of Dying.
In 2020, Adam was featured on the song "Dance with the Devil" by Breaking Benjamin. In 2021, he released a song called "Tidal Wave" for the game PUBG Mobile. In 2023, he was featured on the song "Finish Line" by Skillet.
Adam also started a new music project called Diviidedby in 2023. He worked with Jason "Human Kebab" Parsons from the band USS. Later in 2023, he was featured on a new version of "Let the Sparks Fly" by Thousand Foot Krutch.
Awards
Adam Gontier and Three Days Grace won the Billboard Music Award for Rock Single of the Year in 2006. In 2008, Adam won a BMI Pop Award. He also received the "Big Time Award" at the 2012 "Wire Awards." In July 2022, Adam was honored and added to the Norwood District High School Hall of Honor. Brad and Matt Walst were also inducted.
Personal Life
Adam Gontier married Naomi Faith Brewer in May 2004. They divorced in 2013. He then married Jeanie Marie Larsen in March 2015. Adam has two children. His cousin, Cale Gontier, plays bass for Art of Dying and Saint Asonia. Adam lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 2005, Adam Gontier sought help for personal challenges. During this time, he wrote many songs for the album One-X. These songs include "Never Too Late" and "Animal I Have Become". He has spoken openly about his past struggles and his journey to stay healthy.
