Adam Christopher David Rooney, born on April 21, 1988, is an Irish semi-professional footballer. He plays as a striker for Hereford, where he is also an assistant manager. Rooney has played for many clubs throughout his career. Some of his notable teams include Stoke City, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Birmingham City, and Aberdeen. He also played for Salford City, helping them get promoted to the Football League.

Adam Rooney's Football Journey
Starting at Stoke City
Adam Rooney joined Stoke City in 2005. Before that, he played for youth teams like Home Farm and Crumlin United. He made his first team debut for Stoke in an FA Cup match. Rooney scored his first goal for Stoke against Reading in April 2006. In only his second full start, he scored three goals (a hat-trick) against Brighton & Hove Albion. This made him Stoke's youngest player to score a hat-trick.
Loan Spells
Rooney also spent time playing for other teams on loan. In 2007, he joined Yeovil Town for a short period. Later that year, he moved to Chesterfield in League Two for four months.
Playing for Inverness Caledonian Thistle

In 2008, Rooney signed a three-year deal with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Scotland. He scored his first goal for Inverness against St Mirren. This goal was also the 6,000th goal scored in the SPL.
During the 2009–10 season, Rooney was named the "Irn Bru Phenomenal" First Division Player of the Year. He was the top scorer in the First Division with 24 goals. He scored 27 goals in all competitions that season. His team, Inverness, won the championship trophy that year.
Time at Birmingham City
After his contract with Inverness ended, Rooney joined Birmingham City in 2011. He scored his first goal for the club from a penalty kick against Middlesbrough. He also scored in a Europa League group stage match against NK Maribor.
Loan to Swindon Town
In August 2012, Rooney went on loan to League One club Swindon Town for the season.
Moving to Oldham Athletic
In August 2013, Rooney signed a two-year contract with Oldham Athletic. He scored his first goals for Oldham by scoring twice in a 3–1 win against Port Vale.
Success with Aberdeen
On January 23, 2014, Rooney joined Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. He scored in his very first game for the club, a 2–2 draw with Motherwell. He continued his strong start by scoring his fifth goal in six games, helping Aberdeen end Celtic's 26-match unbeaten run.
Rooney played for Aberdeen in the 2014 Scottish League Cup Final against his old club, Inverness. The game went to extra time and then penalties. Rooney scored the winning penalty kick, helping Aberdeen win the Scottish League Cup. This was Aberdeen's first trophy in 19 years! He was also named the Scottish Professional Football Player of the Month for February 2014.
Rooney had a fantastic 2014–2015 season. He scored two goals in a 5–0 win in the Europa League qualifying round. He then scored a hat-trick in the second leg of that match. He continued to score in European games, bringing his total to six goals in four matches. Rooney also scored his second hat-trick for Aberdeen in a League Cup win against Livingston. He finished the season as the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 28 goals.
In August 2016, Rooney signed a new four-year contract with Aberdeen. He scored his 100th Scottish League goal in March 2017. In April 2017, he scored a goal just 12 seconds into a Scottish Cup semi-final match against Hibernian.
Playing for Salford City
In July 2018, Rooney signed a three-year contract with Salford City, a team in the National League. He made his debut for Salford in August 2018. He helped Salford City get promoted to the Football League.
Solihull Moors and Later Career
Rooney joined Solihull Moors in the National League in March 2020. He scored his first goal for the club in October of that year. After playing for Solihull Moors, he moved to Stratford Town in August 2022. He then joined Brackley Town in October 2022.
On June 16, 2023, Rooney became a player-assistant manager for Hereford. He scored his first goal for Hereford in October 2023 in a 3–1 win against Curzon Ashton.
International Career
Adam Rooney played for the Republic of Ireland under-18 team in 2005. He scored two goals, helping Ireland win a bronze medal. In 2007, he scored three goals for the Ireland under-19s in a match against Bulgaria.
He also played nine times for the under-21 team between 2007 and 2010. In May 2015, he was called up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad for the first time.
Personal Life
Adam Rooney was born in Dublin, Ireland. His older brother, Mark, was also a professional footballer. In January 2022, Rooney helped launch Good Feel Coffee. This online coffee company supports charities that help with mental health and cancer.
