Adam Christopher David Rooney (born on 21 April 1988) is an Irish professional footballer. He plays as a striker for Hereford, where he is also an assistant manager. Rooney has played for many clubs throughout his career. These include Stoke City, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Birmingham City, and Aberdeen. He also played for Salford City, helping them get promoted to the Football League.

Adam Rooney's Football Journey
Starting at Stoke City
Adam Rooney joined Stoke City in the summer of 2005. Before that, he played for youth teams like Home Farm and Crumlin United. He made his first team debut for Stoke in an FA Cup match. Rooney scored his first goal for Stoke against Reading in April 2006. In only his second full start, he scored three goals, known as a hat-trick. This made him Stoke's youngest ever player to score a hat-trick.
Loan Adventures
In 2007, Rooney went on loan to Yeovil Town for a month. Later that year, he joined Chesterfield on a four-month loan. He also had a loan spell at Bury in 2008. These loans helped him gain more experience playing in different leagues.
Success with Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Rooney signed a three-year deal with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, a Scottish Premier League club. He scored his first goal for Inverness in a game against St Mirren. This goal was special because it was the 6,000th goal in the SPL. In the 2009–10 season, he was named the "Irn Bru Phenomenal" First Division Player of the Year. He was the top scorer in the First Division with 24 goals, and 27 goals in all competitions. His team also won the championship trophy that season.
Time at Birmingham City
After his contract with Inverness ended, Rooney joined Birmingham City in 2011. He signed a two-year deal with the Championship team. He scored his first goal for Birmingham from a penalty kick against Middlesbrough. He also scored his first European goal for the club. This happened when Birmingham beat NK Maribor 1-0 in the Europa League group stage.
Loan to Swindon Town
In August 2012, Rooney moved to Swindon Town on loan for the season. Swindon Town was a League One club at the time.
Playing for Oldham Athletic
In 2013, Adam Rooney signed a two-year contract with Oldham Athletic. He scored his first goals for the club against Port Vale. He scored twice in a 3-1 win at Boundary Park.
Key Years at Aberdeen
On 23 January 2014, Rooney joined Aberdeen, a team in the Scottish Premiership. He scored in his very first game for them. Just two days later, he scored again and helped his team reach the 2014 Scottish League Cup Final. Rooney continued to score important goals, including one that ended Celtic's 26-match unbeaten run.
On 8 March 2014, he scored his sixth goal in eight games for Aberdeen. This helped them win a Scottish Cup quarter-final match. Rooney played in the 2014 Scottish League Cup Final against his old club, Inverness. The game went to extra time and then penalties. Rooney scored the winning penalty kick, helping Aberdeen win the League Cup. This was Aberdeen's first trophy in 19 years! He was also named the Scottish Professional Football Player of the Month for February 2014.
Rooney started the 2014–2015 season very well. He scored two goals in a 5-0 win in the Europa League qualifying round. He even scored a hat-trick in the second leg of that match. He scored his tenth goal of the season with another hat-trick in a League Cup game. In December 2014, Rooney signed a new contract with Aberdeen until 2018. He finished that season as the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 28 goals.
In August 2016, Rooney signed another four-year contract extension with Aberdeen. He scored his 100th Scottish League goal in March 2017. In April 2017, he scored a goal just 12 seconds into the Scottish Cup semi-final, helping Aberdeen win 3-2.
Moving to Salford City
Rooney signed a three-year contract with Salford City in July 2018. At the time, Salford City was in the National League. He made his debut for Salford in August 2018.
Time at Solihull Moors
In March 2020, Rooney joined Solihull Moors, another National League club. Soon after he joined, football was paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He finally made his debut in October, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win against Boreham Wood. After losing in the 2022 National League play-off final, Rooney left Solihull Moors in June 2022.
Later Career Clubs
On 19 August 2022, Rooney signed for Stratford Town. He scored five goals in nine games before moving to Brackley Town in October. In June 2023, Rooney became a player-assistant manager at Hereford. He scored his first goal for Hereford in October 2023.
Playing for Ireland
Rooney played for the Republic of Ireland under-18 team in 2005. He scored twice, helping Ireland win a bronze medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival. In 2007, he scored three goals for the Ireland under-19s in a 3-0 win against Bulgaria.
He also played nine times for the under-21 team between 2007 and 2010. In May 2015, Rooney was called up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad for the first time.
Adam Rooney's Life Off the Pitch
Adam Rooney was born in Dublin, Ireland. His older brother, Mark, was also a professional footballer. In January 2022, Rooney helped launch a coffee company called Good Feel Coffee. This company supports charities that help with mental health and cancer.
