Adam Gordon Thomas (born on 11 August 1988) is an English actor. He is well-known for playing Donte Charles in the BBC One school drama Waterloo Road. He was in the show from 2006 to 2009 and returned in 2023. Adam also played Adam Barton in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale from 2009 to 2018.
He has also appeared as a contestant on popular reality shows. These include I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2016 and Strictly Come Dancing in 2023.
Early life
Adam Gordon Thomas was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. His birthday is on 11 August 1988. He has a twin brother named Scott Thomas. Scott was on the TV show Love Island in 2016. Adam also has an older brother, Ryan Thomas, who is an actor. Ryan was in the soap opera Coronation Street. Adam's family background includes both Indian and Caribbean heritage.
Career
Adam Thomas started his TV acting career in 2002. He had a small role in the BBC show Doctors. Four years later, he became famous for his role as Donte Charles. This was in the BBC One school drama series Waterloo Road. He was one of the first actors in the show when it started in 2006. He stayed on the show until 2009.
While on Waterloo Road, Adam also appeared in other shows. He was in the hospital drama Casualty in 2008. He played a boxer in that episode. He also returned to Doctors for another episode in 2007. Adam also appeared as himself on the ITV game show All Star Family Fortunes. He was on the show with his older brother, Ryan Thomas.
After leaving Waterloo Road in 2009, Adam had another role in Doctors. He played a character named Ben Hamilton. This episode aired in May 2009. Soon after, it was announced that Adam would join the long-running ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He played the character Adam Barton. His first appearance in Emmerdale was in July 2009. He left the show in early 2018.
In late 2016, Adam was a contestant on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He finished in third place on the show. In 2019, he co-hosted I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp. He also acted in a BBC drama called Moving On in 2019.
In 2021, it was confirmed that Adam would return to Waterloo Road. He came back to play Donte Charles again. In August 2023, Adam was announced as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. This was the twenty-first series of the popular dance show. He left the competition in week 7 with his dance partner, Luba Mushtuk.
Personal life
Adam Thomas has been with his girlfriend, Caroline Daly, since 2008. In September 2014, they welcomed their first child, a son named Teddy. Adam and Caroline got married on 27 August 2017. Their wedding took place at Delamere Manor in Cheshire. In May 2018, they had their second child, a daughter named Elsie-Rose. The couple also appeared together on the TV show All Star Mr & Mrs in August 2016.
