Adam Gordon Thomas (born 11 August 1988) is an English actor. He is well-known for playing Donte Charles in the BBC One school drama Waterloo Road from 2006 to 2009, and again from 2023. He also played Adam Barton in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale from 2009 to 2018. Adam has also been a contestant on popular TV shows like I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2016 and Strictly Come Dancing in 2023.

Early life and Family
Adam Gordon Thomas was born on 11 August 1988 in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. He has a twin brother named Scott Thomas, who appeared on Love Island. His older brother is Ryan Thomas, who is also an actor, known for Coronation Street. Adam's family background includes English, Indian, and Caribbean heritage. His grandfather came to Manchester, England, from Mumbai, India, in 1947.
Adam Thomas's Acting Career
Adam Thomas started his TV acting journey in 2002 with a small role in the BBC show Doctors.
Breakthrough Role in Waterloo Road
Four years later, in 2006, Adam became famous for his role as Donte Charles in the BBC One drama series Waterloo Road. He was one of the first actors in the show when it began. He played Donte until 2009. While on Waterloo Road, he also made guest appearances in other popular shows. These included the hospital drama Casualty in 2008, where he played a boxer. He also appeared on Doctors again in 2007. Adam even appeared as himself on the ITV game show All Star Family Fortunes with his older brother, Ryan.
Joining Emmerdale
After leaving Waterloo Road in 2009, Adam had another role in Doctors. Soon after, it was announced that he would join the long-running ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He played the character of Adam Barton and first appeared on screen in July 2009. Adam left Emmerdale in early 2018 after many years on the show.
Reality TV and Stage Work
In November and December 2016, Adam was a contestant on the sixteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He did very well and finished in third place. In 2018, Adam also performed on stage in Nativity! The Musical. He played The Hollywood Producer during the show's tour in Liverpool. In February 2019, he appeared in an episode of the BBC drama Moving On. In October 2019, Adam became a co-host for I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp, a show that goes behind the scenes of I'm a Celebrity.
Return to Waterloo Road and Strictly Come Dancing
In late 2021, it was confirmed that Adam would return to his role as Donte Charles in Waterloo Road, as the show was brought back. In August 2023, Adam was announced as one of the contestants on the twenty-first series of Strictly Come Dancing. He danced with professional partner Luba Mushtuk. They left the competition in week 7, on 4 November, after a dance-off. In 2025, Adam and his older brother Ryan hosted the ITV1 game show 99 to Beat.
Adam Thomas's Personal Life
Adam Thomas has been with his girlfriend, Caroline Daly, since 2008. In September 2014, they welcomed their first child, a son named Teddy. Adam and Caroline got married on 27 August 2017, in Cheshire. In May 2018, they had their second child, a daughter named Elsie-Rose. The couple also appeared together on the TV show All Star Mr & Mrs in August 2016.
