A Look Back at Adams Key
Early Days and Names
Long ago, Adams Key was known by a different name: Cocolobo Key. It was officially named Adams' Key on a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey map in 1862.
The Cocolobo Cay Club
The island was once home to the Cocolobo Cay Club. This was a private resort where people could stay and relax. However, in 1992, a very strong storm called Hurricane Andrew hit the island directly. The hurricane destroyed everything on Adams Key, including the buildings of the club.
Legends of the Past
Local stories and legends say that the island was once a secret hideout for a pirate known as "Black Caesar." It's a fascinating part of the island's history, even if it's just a tale!
