Adenocarpus viscosus is a special kind of shrub, like a small bush. It has pretty flowers and belongs to the pea family, called Fabaceae. This plant is only found in the Canary Islands, which are islands off the coast of Africa. Locals there call it "Codeso del Pico."
You can find it growing high up, usually above 1,800 meters (about 5,900 feet). It lives on two islands: La Palma, especially in a place called Caldera de Tabouriente, and Tenerife. In Tenerife, it's a very common bush in Teide National Park and also grows in parts of Corona Forestal Nature Park and Reserva Especial de las Palomas.
Where it Lives
This plant loves to grow in cool, high-up places. These areas are similar to a subalpine climate, meaning it's often a bit cold and dry. It prefers "xeric" habitats, which means places that don't get a lot of rain.
You will often find Adenocarpus viscosus in high-altitude pine forests. It grows among the tall Canary Island Pine trees (Pinus canariensis). It can also be found even higher up, above the tree line, where no trees can grow because it's too cold or windy.
Is it in Danger?
Even though this plant is not currently considered "threatened," it still faces some challenges. It can be harmed by things like habitat destruction. This happens when its natural home is damaged or removed, perhaps by building or other human activities.
It is also vulnerable to various invasive species. These are plants or animals that are not native to the Canary Islands. They can spread quickly and take over the space and resources that Adenocarpus viscosus needs to survive.
