Sir Joseph-Philippe-René-Adolphe Caron (December 24, 1843 – April 20, 1908) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. He is best known for being the Minister of Militia and Defence in the government of Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald. He played an important role during the North-West Rebellion of 1885.

Sir Adolphe-Philippe Caron was an important figure in Canadian politics during the late 1800s. He helped lead the country as a government minister. He was also a successful lawyer.
Early Life and Education
Adolphe-Philippe Caron was born in Quebec City in 1843. His father was René-Édouard Caron. Adolphe-Philippe studied at the Petit Séminaire de Québec and McGill College. After his studies, he became a lawyer in 1865. He joined a law firm in Quebec City and later became a partner.
His Political Career
Caron was a member of the Conservative Party. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada six times. His first election win was in 1873. He became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Quebec County. An MP is a person elected to represent a specific area, called an electoral district, in the country's parliament.
He successfully defended his seat in the elections of 1874, 1878, 1880, 1882, and 1887. In the 1891 election, he was elected as the MP for Rimouski. Later, in 1896, he became the MP for Three Rivers and St. Maurice.
Important Government Roles
From 1880 to 1892, Caron served as the Minister of Militia and Defence. In this role, he was in charge of Canada's military forces. This was a very important job, especially during the North-West Rebellion in 1885. The rebellion was a conflict in western Canada. Caron helped manage the military response during this time.
After his time as Minister of Militia and Defence, he became the Postmaster General of Canada. He held this position from 1892 to 1896. The Postmaster General is responsible for the country's postal service.
Later Life
Caron left politics in 1900 and went back to working as a lawyer. He passed away in Montreal in 1908 after being ill for several months.
