Aerospace Valley is a special area in France where many companies and research centers work together on flying machines. Think of it as a giant team dedicated to aerospace engineering, which is the science of building airplanes and spacecraft.

This team is located in the southwest of France, in the regions of Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The main hubs of activity are in and around the cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse.

By 2009, this group included over 500 companies. Famous names like Airbus, Air France Industries, and Dassault Aviation are part of it. Together, they provided about 120,000 jobs for people working in the aviation and space industries. About 8,500 researchers also work there, inventing the future of flight.

Back in 2009, Aerospace Valley set a huge goal for itself: to create between 40,000 and 45,000 new jobs by the year 2026.

Top Schools and Research Centers

A big part of Aerospace Valley's success comes from its connection to top schools and research centers. This area is sometimes called "Toulouse Aerospace" because it's packed with places for learning and discovery.

Key locations include:

  • Toulouse: This city is home to famous aviation schools like ISAE, ENAC, and IPSA. It also has major research centers like ONERA and the French space agency, CNES.
  • Bordeaux: This city has a special lab for computer science and automation, which helps create smart systems for aircraft.
  • Bordes: Near a company called Turbomeca, there is a research center focused on creating better fuels for airplanes and rockets.
  • Tarbes: An experimental center here studies the best ways to take apart old airplanes safely.

Working with Others

Aerospace Valley doesn't work alone. It is a member of the European Aviation Clusters Partnership, a group of similar aerospace teams across Europe. By working together, they can share ideas and make even bigger discoveries.

Cool Projects

The Air-Cobot is a robot developed by Aerospace Valley to help check airplanes for safety.

One of the exciting projects from Aerospace Valley is the Air-Cobot. This is a smart, mobile robot designed to inspect airplanes.

During maintenance, the Air-Cobot can move around an aircraft and use its sensors to check for any problems. This helps make flying even safer by ensuring every plane is in perfect condition before it takes off.
