Aguas Corrientes is a small town in southern Uruguay. It is located in the Canelones Department. The town's name means running waters. This name comes from the special water plant there.

The Santa Lucia River was chosen for drinking water a long time ago. This was for the city of Montevideo. Work on the water treatment plant began in 1870. It opened on July 18, 1871. At first, British companies owned the plant. Later, in 1949, the government took it over.

The first people to live here were the plant workers and their families. A public school opened in 1882. On November 26, 1923, Aguas Corrientes was officially called a "Pueblo" (town). Later, on October 19, 1971, it became a "Villa" (village). Today, the area around the town is mostly farms. The town itself is a small center for shops and services that help the farming community.
