Ahtyba Rubin (pronounced ah-TAH-buh; born July 25, 1986) is a former professional American football player. He played as a defensive tackle, a position where players try to stop the opposing team's offense. Rubin was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the 2008 NFL Draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Iowa State University.

Early Life and High School
Ahtyba Rubin was born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He grew up in Pensacola, Florida and went to Escambia High School. He graduated in 2004. Interestingly, two other famous NFL players, Trent Richardson and Emmitt Smith, also went to Escambia High School.
After high school, Rubin attended Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. In his first year, he played on the defensive line. But in his second year, he switched to the offensive line. He did very well in this new role. He even earned special honors for his performance in 2006.
College Football Journey
After community college, Ahtyba Rubin was considered a talented player. Many universities wanted him to play for their teams. He chose to go to Iowa State University.
At Iowa State, he switched back to playing on the defensive line. In his junior year (2006), he became a starter for the last nine games. He made 34 tackles and had one sack that season.
In his senior year, Rubin played in every game for the Iowa State Cyclones. He continued to play well, making 42 tackles and 1.5 sacks. His strong performance in college helped him get noticed by professional teams.
Playing in the NFL
Ahtyba Rubin was seen as a player who could become a good starter in the NFL. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. This was a big step for him, joining one of the top football leagues in the world.
Cleveland Browns Years
When Rubin first joined the Cleveland Browns in 2008, he was a backup player. He supported the main nose tackle, Shaun Rogers. In 2009, when Rogers got injured, Rubin stepped up and became the starting nose tackle.
In 2010, Rubin officially became the Browns' main starter at nose tackle. This was his best season with the team. He made 87 tackles and even caught an interception against the Kansas City Chiefs. During his seven years with the Browns, Rubin played in 72 games and started 50 of them. He recorded 9 sacks, 227 tackles, and 3 forced fumbles.
Moving to Seattle
On March 19, 2015, Ahtyba Rubin signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He quickly earned a starting spot on their defensive line. In his first season with the Seahawks, he got his first sack for the team. He also made an interception in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Because he played so well, the Seahawks signed him to a new three-year contract in 2016. He continued to be a strong player for them. However, he was released by the Seahawks in September 2017.
Later NFL Teams
After leaving the Seahawks, Rubin played for a few other NFL teams in 2017. He briefly signed with the Denver Broncos in September 2017. Later that year, in October, he joined the Atlanta Falcons.
In 2018, Rubin signed with the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury to his biceps and was placed on injured reserve, which ended his season.
