Ailey is a small city in Montgomery County, Georgia, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the state. In 2020, about 519 people lived there. This was a bit more than the 432 people who lived there in 2010.

History of Ailey

Ailey started with a post office in 1891. A post office helps people send and receive mail. Just two years later, in 1893, the town officially became a city. This means it got its own local government.

Geography of Ailey

Ailey is in the western part of Montgomery County. Its exact location is 32°11′14″N 82°34′8″W / 32.18722°N 82.56889°W / 32.18722; -82.56889. It is right next to Mount Vernon on its west side. Mount Vernon is the main city, or county seat, of Montgomery County.

Roads and Rivers in Ailey

A major road, U.S. Route 280, goes through Ailey. This road connects Ailey to other towns. If you go west on this road, you will reach McRae–Helena, about 23 miles away. If you go east, you will get to Vidalia, which is about 10 miles away.

The city of Ailey covers an area of about 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2) (5.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 km2), is water. Small streams and rivers that flow into the Oconee River help drain the city's water.
