Air Bud: World Pup, also known as Air Bud 3, is a fun comedy film from 2000. It was directed by Bill Bannerman. This movie is the third in the popular Air Bud series. It was the first film made without Buddy, the amazing dog star from the first two movies. Buddy passed away after the previous film, Golden Receiver. World Pup was released directly to video in the U.S. However, it did play in movie theaters for a short time in the Philippines.

Story of the Film

New Family, New Team

The movie starts with teenager Josh Framm. His mom, Jackie, has just married her veterinarian boyfriend, Dr. Patrick Sullivan. Josh and his best friend, Tom Stewart, are excited. They both made their school's soccer team!

Their coach then shares some news. Their team will now include both boys and girls. Josh soon meets Emma Putter. She is a friendly and wealthy girl. Emma just moved to Fernfield from England after her mother's death.

Buddy Finds Love

Emma will also be playing on Josh's soccer team. She has a beautiful golden retriever named Molly. Buddy, Josh's dog, thinks Molly is very special. Emma invites Josh to a party at her house. Tom arrives dressed in a funny British soldier outfit, wearing a kilt.

While the party is going on, Buddy and Molly get along great. They become very fond of each other upstairs in Emma's house. Meanwhile, Josh's sister, Andrea Framm, and her best friend, Tammy, try to find out what's happening at the party. Soon after, Molly has six adorable puppies with Buddy!

Buddy the Soccer Star

Next, everyone discovers that Buddy can play soccer incredibly well. He has an amazing talent! However, the soccer committee makes a tough decision. Their chairman, Jack Stearns, recommends banning Josh's team, the Timberwolves. This is because Buddy is on their team.

The Timberwolves are given two choices. They can either remove Buddy from their team or leave the league. If they left, Jack's team, the Springbrook Spartans, would get credit for a game they lost. Knowing Buddy is their best player, the Timberwolves decide to quit the league.

Trouble and Triumph

Jack's son, Steve Stearns, is the Spartans' captain. He is very upset when he learns the Timberwolves were banned. Steve confronts his father. Because of this, Jack calls the Timberwolves coach, Montoya. He tells him the committee changed their minds. The Timberwolves are back in the league!

Buddy gets a uniform and is on the team roster. Josh's soccer team makes it to the state championship game against the Spartans. But then, trouble begins! Buddy and Molly's six newborn puppies are kidnapped. A man named Snerbert takes them. He wants to sell them for a lot of money.

Josh, Andrea, and Emma chase after Snerbert. They catch him! Snerbert's assistant, Webster, helps them. Webster is the butler Emma's father, Geoffrey, hired to help with Molly's pregnancy. Webster tells them Snerbert wanted to get rich. Webster just wanted a puppy, something he always wished for.

Webster then offers to drive Andrea, Josh, Emma, and Buddy to the stadium. The Timberwolves were losing the game because their star players were missing. An army of dogs stays behind to make sure Snerbert doesn't escape. The Timberwolves then win the championship! Buddy scores the game-winning goal.

After their big win, Buddy even helps the United States women's national soccer team! He helps them win the FIFA Women's World Cup in a penalty shootout against Norway.
