Aitkul B. Samakova is a well-known Kazakhstani politician and expert in political science. She has held many important roles in her country's government. She was a member of the Mazhilis (which is like a parliament) and the Senate of Kazakhstan (another part of the parliament). She also served as the First Deputy to the Minister of Trade for Kazakhstan. From 2002 to 2006, Aitkul Samakova was Kazakhstan's Minister of the Environment.

Aitkul Samakova's Early Life and Education
Aitkul Samakova was born on February 2, 1949, in Kazakhstan.
She started her education by getting a technical degree from a college in Almaty in 1967. After that, from 1967 to 1980, she worked at a canning factory in Almaty. She began as an engineer and later moved into management jobs. She continued her studies, earning another technical degree in Taraz in 1973. Later, in 1983, she graduated from Kazakhstan's Higher Party School with a degree in political science. She then earned a law degree from Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University in 1999.
Starting Her Political Journey
In 1980, Aitkul Samakova began her political career. She became the Party Secretary for the Frunze district of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. From 1980 to 1991, she held various leadership roles within the Communist Party. These included being the head of the Almaty City Party Committee and the deputy head of the party's department for trade and consumer services.
In 1991, Samakova was chosen to be the First Deputy to the Kazakhstan Minister of Trade. This meant she was a very important helper to the main Minister of Trade. In 1996, she became the Head of the Department of Citizenship in the government of Kazakhstan.
Helping the Environment and Families
In 1998, Aitkul Samakova joined the Senate of Kazakhstan, which is one of the two houses of the Kazakh parliament. In 1999, the President of Kazakhstan asked her to lead the National Commission for Family and Women Affairs. This important group worked to improve the lives of families and women in Kazakhstan. In this role, she also represented Kazakhstan's government on women's issues to international groups like the United Nations.
In 2002, she was appointed Minister of the Environment. This meant she was in charge of protecting nature and managing water resources in Kazakhstan. She worked in the government cabinets led by Prime Ministers Imangali Tasmagambetov and Daniyal Akhmetov. Even while she was the Minister of the Environment, Samakova continued to lead the National Commission for Family and Women Affairs. She kept this role even after she left the Environment Ministry in 2006.
Continuing Her Public Service
In 2007, Samakova became a deputy (a representative) in the Mazhilis for the political party Nur Otan. In the Mazhilis, she worked on committees related to the environment and nature. She also served as the Chairman of Nur Otan's Social Council. She continued to be a representative in the Nur Otan party until 2016.
Today, Aitkul Samakova is a member of the Board of Directors for KazakhExport, an export insurance company.
