Olympic Dreams and Medals
London 2012 and Rio 2016
Akeem Haynes is a talented runner who has competed for Canada in the Olympic Games. He was part of Canada's 4 x 100 metre relay team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
He also represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the 100 metre race, he ran a time of 10.24 seconds in the first round. This was not fast enough for him to move on to the next stage of the competition.
Winning Olympic Bronze
Akeem Haynes was a key member of Canada's 4 x 100 metre relay team in Rio. The team finished third in their qualifying race, which allowed them to move on to the final.
In the final race, the Canadian team was incredibly close to winning a medal. They finished just 0.02 seconds behind the United States team, who were in third place. However, the USA team was later disqualified because one of their runners passed the baton outside the allowed area. This meant that Canada was awarded the bronze medal!
Akeem Haynes shared this exciting bronze medal with his teammates: Andre De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Aaron Brown, and Mobolade Ajomale. Mobolade Ajomale ran in the earlier heats but not in the final.
