Aklak Air is an airline from Canada. It is owned by the Inuvialuit people and is based in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. This airline flies all year round and also has special charter flights. They travel across the western Arctic region. Their main airport is Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport.
Aklak Air's Story
Aklak Air started in 1977 and began flying in 1978. In June 1994, Aklak Air and another company called Kenn Borek Air teamed up. This partnership means Aklak Air can use Kenn Borek Air's planes when they need them. The Inuvialuit Joint Venture Company fully owns Aklak Air.
Where Aklak Air Flies
As of February 2023, Aklak Air flies to several communities in the Northwest Territories. These are places where people live and work.
- Fort McPherson (Fort McPherson Airport) - They fly here when the ice road is closed or the ferry is not running.
- Inuvik (Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport) - This is their main base.
- Paulatuk (Paulatuk (Nora Aliqatchialuk Ruben) Airport)
- Sachs Harbour (Sachs Harbour (David Nasogaluak Jr. Saaryuaq) Airport)
- Ulukhaktok (Ulukhaktok/Holman Airport)

Important Events
Sometimes, things happen that are not planned.
- On November 4, 2010, a fire happened in a hangar at Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport. A hangar is like a garage for airplanes. This fire unfortunately destroyed three planes that Aklak Air used. These planes were a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter (C-GZVH), a Beechcraft King Air (C-GHOC), and a Beechcraft 99 (C-FKBK).
