Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp (世界名作童話 アラジンと魔法のランプ, Sekai Meisaku Dōwa: Arajin to mahō no rampu) is a 1982 anime fantasy film. It is based on the famous Middle Eastern folk tale of Aladdin. The movie was first shown in Japan on March 13, 1982. Toei released it.

The Story of Aladdin

This movie tells the story of Aladdin, a clever but poor boy. He lives in a desert city with his mother. Aladdin and his friends often find ways to get food and supplies from local markets.

Finding the Magic Lamp

One day, a tricky wizard approaches Aladdin. The wizard promises Aladdin great wealth. But first, Aladdin must go into a special cave in the desert. His task is to find a mysterious lamp inside.

Aladdin manages to get the lamp. He even finds a huge room called the "hall of a thousand lights" where the lamp is hidden. When he returns to the cave entrance, Aladdin becomes suspicious of the wizard. He refuses to hand over the lamp. Because of this, the wizard traps Aladdin inside the cave.

The Genies Appear

Stuck in the cave, Aladdin remembers a magic ring the wizard gave him. He rubs the ring, and a friendly Genie appears! This Genie helps Aladdin escape the cave. On his way home through the desert, Aladdin finds a small mouse and decides to keep it as a pet.

Back home, Aladdin discovers that the lamp holds an even more powerful Genie. For his first wish, Aladdin asks for a delicious meal for himself and his mother.

Aladdin Meets the Princess

The next day, Aladdin sells the fancy golden plates from their magical meal. He then meets a beautiful young woman. He soon learns she is Princess Badral, the Sultan's daughter!

Princess Badral is trying to avoid the Grand Wazir's son. Her father, the Sultan, has promised her hand in marriage to him. Aladdin and Badral spend time together in the city. Eventually, guards find Badral and take her back to the palace. Aladdin has fallen in love with her and decides he wants to marry her himself.

Becoming a Prince

With the help of the Genies, Aladdin becomes a very rich prince. He then asks the Sultan for Princess Badral's hand in marriage. The Sultan had already promised her to the Grand Wazir's son. So, the Sultan makes a rule: whoever brings the best wedding gift (dowry) will marry Badral.

Aladdin easily wins this challenge. The Grand Wazir and his son are arrested because they used stolen wealth for their dowry. After marrying Badral, Aladdin uses the Lamp Genie to build a magnificent palace for them.

The Wizard's Return

One day, Aladdin and his friends are out hunting with the Sultan. The evil wizard from before tricks Aladdin's mother and Badral. He convinces them to trade the magic lamp for a new, ordinary one.

With the lamp now in his hands, the wizard wishes for Aladdin's palace and everyone inside it to be moved to his castle in Africa. The Sultan is furious! He tells Aladdin he has three days to rescue his daughter. If he fails, Aladdin's friends will be in big trouble.

Saving the Princess

Aladdin loses his camel in the desert. He then calls upon the Genie of the Ring, which he still has. The Ring Genie warns him that he cannot undo the Lamp Genie's powerful spell. However, he can transport Aladdin to where the palace is. Using this magic makes the ring crumble away.

Once there, Aladdin reunites with Badral. Together, they manage to defeat the evil wizard. They use the lamp to undo his wish, bringing the palace and everyone back home.

The movie ends with Aladdin and Badral sealing the magic lamp in a locked chest. They then get rid of the key, making sure no one can use its power for bad again.
