Alain Jean Giresse (born on 2 August 1952) is a French football coach and former player. He was most recently the manager of the Kosovo team.
Giresse was named the French Player of the Year three times: in 1982, 1983, and 1987. He usually played as an attacking or central midfielder. He was known as a smart playmaker, which means he was good at creating chances for his teammates. He was also quick and agile because of his smaller size. His son, Thibault Giresse, is also a football coach and former player.

Playing Career Highlights
Alain Giresse had a fantastic career as a football player, especially with the Bordeaux club. He played for them for 16 years, from 1970 to 1986. During his time there, he played in 519 league games and scored 158 goals. He then moved to Marseille for two seasons.
International Matches for France
Giresse played for the French national team in two FIFA World Cup tournaments. France finished fourth in the 1982 FIFA World Cup and third in the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
He was also a key part of the team that won the European Championship in 1984. In that team, he was part of a famous midfield group called the "Carré Magique," which means "Magic Square." This group included himself, Michel Platini, Luis Fernández, and Jean Tigana. They were known for their amazing teamwork and skill in the middle of the field.

Managing National Teams

Giresse has coached many national teams, including the Georgian national team and the Gabon team. He became the manager of the Mali team in 2010 and led them to a third-place finish in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. He later managed Mali again from 2015 to 2017.
He also coached the Senegal national football team from 2013 to 2015. In December 2018, Giresse took over as manager of the Tunisia team, leaving the role in August 2019.
His most recent role was with the Kosovo team. He was appointed their manager on 23 February 2022, after their previous coach resigned. He stayed with Kosovo until June 2023.
