He was known as a smart playmaker, which means he was good at creating chances for his teammates. He was also quick and agile because of his smaller size. His son, Thibault Giresse, is also a football coach and former player.

He was also a key part of the team that won the European Championship in 1984. In that team, he was part of a famous midfield group called the "Carré Magique," which means "Magic Square." This group included himself, Michel Platini, Luis Fernández, and Jean Tigana. They were known for their amazing teamwork and skill in the middle of the field.
