Alan Dugan (born February 12, 1923 – died September 3, 2003) was an American poet. He was known for his unique style of writing.
His first book of poems, simply called Poems, came out in 1961. This book won two big awards: the National Book Award for Poetry and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. He also won another National Book Award for his last book, Poems Seven, published in 2001.

Alan Dugan grew up in a place called Jamaica, Queens, in New York. He served in World War II. His experiences from the war often appeared in his poems.
He lived in Truro, Massachusetts, which is on Cape Cod. He was part of a writing group there. Alan Dugan's books were usually titled Poems followed by a number, like Poems 2 or Poems 3.
He was married to an artist named Judith Shahn. He dedicated all his books to her. Alan Dugan passed away on September 3, 2003, when he was 80 years old.
