Alana Mychal Haim (born December 15, 1991) is an American musician and actress. She is famous for being part of the pop rock band Haim. She plays piano, guitar, and sings in the band. Her two older sisters, Este and Danielle, are also in the band.
In 2020, their third album, Women in Music Pt. III, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Alana also became a well-known actress. In 2021, she starred in the movie Licorice Pizza. Her acting in the film earned her many awards and nominations. These included a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Alana Haim's Early Life
Alana Haim was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 15, 1991. Her family is Jewish. Her father, Mordechai "Moti" Haim, was a professional soccer player from Israel. He moved to the United States in 1980. Her mother, Donna Rose, used to be an art teacher.
Alana has two older sisters, Este (born 1986) and Danielle (born 1989). The Haim sisters grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Music was a big part of their family life. Their dad played drums, and their mom was a folk singer. Their parents taught them to play many instruments. Alana started playing percussion when she was just four years old.
The sisters listened to their parents' classic rock and Americana music. They also liked '90s R&B. In 2000, the family formed a band called Rockinhaim. They played their first concert at Canter's Deli in Los Angeles. Their dad played drums and their mom sang. For the next ten years, they often performed '70s and '80s rock songs. They mostly played at local fairs and fundraisers.
Alana went to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She graduated in 2010. She briefly attended Los Angeles Valley College but left to focus on her music career.

Forming the Band Haim
In 2007, Alana and her sisters, Este and Danielle, officially formed their band, Haim. They released their first EP, Forever, in 2012. An EP is like a mini-album.
Haim played at many music festivals. This helped them get noticed by famous artist Jay-Z. He signed them to his record label, Roc Nation, in 2012. Later that year, Haim also signed with Columbia Records. They were even featured at Jay-Z's Made in America festival.
Haim's Albums and Success
Haim released their first full studio album, Days Are Gone, in September 2013. It was very popular. They were even invited to be musical guests on the TV show Saturday Night Live.
Their second album, Something to Tell You, came out in July 2017. In June 2020, they released their third album, Women in Music, Pt. III. This album was nominated for Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. One of its songs, "The Steps", was nominated for Best Rock Performance. Many music critics listed Women in Music, Pt. III as one of the best albums of the year.
Alana Haim's Acting Career
Alana Haim started her acting career in 2021. She starred in the movie Licorice Pizza. The film was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. He had worked with the Haim band before, directing some of their music videos. He also made a short film about how they created their album Something to Tell You.
Licorice Pizza is set in 1973. Alana played the main role alongside Cooper Hoffman. Cooper is the son of famous actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. Critics loved Alana's performance in the movie. Justin Chang from the Los Angeles Times called her "the star of this boisterous, bighearted movie." David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter said she was "an incandescent presence." This means she shined brightly on screen.
For her role, Alana was nominated for several major awards. These included a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and a Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress.
