Alardo de Popma was a very busy artist. He made many important engravings for books and other projects.
Early Works and Collaborations
- Around 1616, he started making engravings for a book called Cronicón de la excelentísima casa de los Ponce de León. This book was published in 1620.
- In 1617, he created the title page for a book by a friar named Pedro de Abreu.
- In 1621, he worked with another engraver, Jan de Courbes. They created fifteen copper plates for a project ordered by the Order of Merced, a religious group.
Later Important Projects
- In 1624, Alardo de Popma engraved the title page for a book by Pedro Fernández de Navarrete. This book was about how to keep monarchies strong.
- He also made the title page for a book about important military orders like the Order of Santiago, Order of Calatrava, and Order of Alcantara. This book was published in 1629.
- In 1630, he created the front page for a collection of works by San Juan de la Cruz. This was a special request from Pedro Madrigal's widow.
Other Notable Engravings
- Alardo de Popma also contributed to a book called El glorioso doctor San Ildefonso by Salazar de Mendoza. This book was published around 1618 in Toledo.
- One of his most famous works was for the book El embajador by Juan de Vera y Zúñiga in 1620. People admired this work for its clear lines and how he used light and shadow.
