Alauddin Al-Azad (born May 6, 1932 – died July 3, 2009) was a very important writer, novelist, and poet from Bangladesh. He wrote many books, stories, and poems that are still enjoyed today. His works even became part of school lessons in Bangladesh!

Early Life and Learning

Alauddin Al-Azad was born in Dhaka, a big city in Bangladesh. He finished his high school studies in 1947 and 1949. He then went to University of Dhaka. There, he earned his first degree (BA Honors) in 1953. He got his master's degree (MA) in 1954.

Later, he went to University of London in England. In 1970, he earned his PhD degree there. A PhD is a very high university degree. His special research was about a poet named Iswar Gupter. Alauddin Al-Azad also worked as a first secretary for Bangladesh in Moscow. He passed away on July 3, 2009, in Dhaka.

His Writings

Alauddin Al-Azad wrote many different kinds of books. His works were so good that they were included in school and college lessons. Students in Bangladesh learned about Bengali literature from his writings.
