Alaysha Johnson OLY (born July 20, 1996) is an American athlete who specializes in hurdling. She is known for her speed in the 100 metres hurdles event. In 2024, she earned a spot on the United States Olympic team by finishing second at the US Olympic Trials.

Alaysha Johnson's Career Highlights

Alaysha Johnson was a talented student and athlete from a young age. While attending high school, she was part of the debate team. In 2013, she was named the Texas Gatorade Track & Field Girls Athlete of the Year.

Johnson continued her athletic journey in college. She studied at the University of Oregon and later at Texas Tech University. She became a very successful college athlete, earning the title of 8-time All-American. This means she was recognized as one of the best college athletes in the country multiple times. She also won two Pac-12 Conference championships.

Becoming a Top Hurdler

In 2022, Alaysha showed she was one of the best hurdlers in the U.S. She finished second in the 60 metres hurdles at the 2022 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Later that year, she was also the runner-up in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In that race, she set a new personal best time of 12.35 seconds. This amazing time placed her among the fastest 100 metres hurdlers in the world at that time.

Because of her strong performance, Johnson was chosen to represent the United States at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She also won a gold medal at the 2022 NACAC Championships in Freeport, Bahamas, for the 100 metres hurdles.

Olympic Dreams and Success

Alaysha continued to excel in 2023, winning a bronze medal at the Athletics at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

In May 2024, she finished second in the 100 metres hurdles at the LA Grand Prix. The next month, she competed in the US Olympic Trials. She finished second with an even faster personal best time of 12.31 seconds. This incredible performance earned her a spot on the U.S. team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the Olympics, she competed in the 100 metres hurdles and reached the final, finishing seventh overall.
