Alaysha Johnson (born July 20, 1996) is an American track and field athlete. She is best known as a hurdler. Alaysha competed for the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She earned a spot on the Olympic team by finishing second in the 100 meters hurdles at the 2024 US Olympic Trials.

Alaysha's Athletics Journey

Alaysha Johnson has been a talented athlete since her school days. She studied at the University of Oregon and Texas Tech University. In high school, she was part of the debate team. She was also named the Texas Gatorade Track & Field Girls Athlete of the Year in 2013. This award recognized her as a top high school athlete.

Early Professional Success

In 2022, Alaysha started making a name for herself. She finished second in the 60-meter hurdles at the USA Indoor Championships. Later that year, she was also runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles at the USA Outdoor Championships. She ran a personal best time of 12.35 seconds. This amazing time placed her among the top 12 hurdlers in the world. Because of this performance, she was chosen to represent the United States. She competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Unfortunately, the 100-meter hurdle event did not go well for her. She was disqualified, along with other athletes.

Road to the Olympics

Alaysha continued to work hard. In May 2024, she finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the LA Grand Prix. The next month was a big moment for her. She placed second at the US Olympic Trials. She set a new personal best time of 12.31 seconds. This incredible run earned her a spot on the US team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the Olympics, she reached the final of the 100-meter hurdles. She finished seventh overall, a great achievement on the world stage.

College and High School Achievements

Alaysha Johnson had a very successful college career. She was an 8-time All-American athlete. This means she was recognized as one of the best college athletes in the country multiple times. She also won two Pac-12 Conference championships. She was a finalist three times in the Big 12 Conference.

At University of Oregon, Alaysha set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.69 seconds in 2017. She is also ranked second in Oregon Ducks history for the 60-meter hurdles.

In high school, Alaysha was the 2013 Gatorade Texas Track and Field Athlete of the Year. She was a 5-time high school All-American. She also won the 2012 Texas UIL 5A State Championship. She set school records at Spring High School in the 100 hurdles (13.98 seconds) and 300 hurdles (41.24 seconds).
