The Albarracín Cathedral is a beautiful Catholic church located in the historic town of Albarracín, Spain. This town is in the Teruel province, which is part of the Aragon region. It's a very old and important building.
Building the Cathedral
The Albarracín Cathedral was built a long time ago. Construction started in 1572. It took many years to finish. The bell tower was completed in 1600.
Who Designed It?
Several architects worked on the cathedral. Some of the main designers were Martín de Castañeda, Quinto Pierres Vedel, and Alonso del Barrio de Ajo.
Inside the Cathedral
The church has one main open space called a nave. The ceiling above this area features Gothic tracery. This means it has fancy, detailed patterns.
Later, the inside of the nave was redecorated. The Chapel of the Virgen del Pilar was also updated. They used stucco (a type of plaster) and gilding (thin layers of gold). This was done in the Baroque style, which is known for being very grand and decorative.
The Main Altar
The main retablo (a large, decorated screen behind the altar) was finished in 1566. It was created by an artist named Cosme Damián Bas.
