The Cathedral of the Saviour is a beautiful Roman Catholic church in Albarracín, a town in Aragón, Spain. It is one of the main churches for the Diocese of Teruel and Albarracín. This means it's a very important church for the area.
History of the Cathedral
Building this amazing cathedral took many years. Construction started in 1572 and finished around 1600. That's when its tall bell-tower was completed. Some of the architects who helped design it were Martín de Castañeda, Quinto Pierres Vedel, and Alonso del Barrio de Ajo.
The church has a single main hall, called a nave. The ceiling of this nave shows off beautiful Gothic designs. Later, the inside of the nave and a special area called the Chapel of the Virgen del Pilar were redecorated. This was done in the Baroque style, using fancy stucco and gold decorations.
The main altarpiece, which is a large decorated screen behind the altar, was finished in 1566. It was created by an artist named Cosme Damián Bas.
