Albert Hague was born in Berlin, Germany. His father, Harry Marcuse, was a psychiatrist and a very talented musician. His mother, Mimi, was a chess champion.

When Albert was young, his family left Germany. They moved to Rome to escape the dangers of the time. In 1939, Albert came to America. His sister, who lived in Ohio, helped him get a music scholarship at the University of Cincinnati.

After finishing college in 1942, Albert Hague joined the United States Army. He played in a special service band during World War II.
