Albert W. Hall, born on November 10, 1937, is an American actor who has retired from acting. He is known for his roles in many movies and TV shows. Some of his most famous parts include Chief Phillips in the 1979 war movie Apocalypse Now. He also played Judge Seymore Walsh in the TV shows Ally McBeal and The Practice. Another important role was Brother Baines in the 1992 Spike Lee film Malcolm X. His last acting job was in 2011, on the TV series Men of a Certain Age.

Albert Hall was born and grew up in Brighton, Alabama. He studied acting at the Columbia University School of the Arts.
Starting his Acting Career
Albert Hall began his acting career in the 1970s. One of his first roles was as Pointer in the movie Willie Dynamite (1974). He also appeared in Leadbelly (1976), a movie about a famous musician. In 1978, he played a co-pilot in The Bermuda Triangle. He also had a small part in the TV miniseries Roots: The Next Generations in 1979.
His Role in Apocalypse Now
Albert Hall became very well-known for his role as Chief Phillips in the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now. This famous war film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In the movie, Hall's character, Chief Phillips, leads a United States Navy boat crew. They travel up a river from Vietnam into Cambodia. Their mission is to help Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) find and stop Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando).
To get ready for this role, Hall learned a lot about what it was like to be in the Vietnam War. He wanted to make sure his acting was very real. He said that filming the movie in the Philippines was "exotic" and "fun."

After Apocalypse Now, Albert Hall continued to act in many projects. In 1981, he was in the TV miniseries The Sophisticated Gents. He got his first regular TV role in 1983 on the show Ryan's Four. He also acted with Sidney Poitier in the 1991 TV movie Separate but Equal.
Throughout the 1990s, Hall appeared in many different movies. He had memorable roles in Malcolm X (1992) and Rookie of the Year (1993). He worked again with director Spike Lee (who directed Malcolm X) on the movie Get on the Bus (1996). Other films he was in during this time include Major Payne (1995), Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), Courage Under Fire (1996), and Beloved (1998).
In the late 1990s, many TV viewers recognized him as Judge Seymore Walsh. He played this role on the popular TV shows The Practice and Ally McBeal. Both of these shows were created by David E. Kelley. He also played a judge in soap operas like The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives.
Albert Hall has also played real people in movies. He played baseball legend Hank Aaron in the 1998 TV movie The Tiger Woods Story. He also played Elijah Muhammad in the 2001 movie Ali, which was about boxer Muhammad Ali. Later, he had a recurring role as Bruce in the TV series Men of a Certain Age.
