Location Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada
Type Railroad

The Alberta Central Railway Museum is a super cool place in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada. It's a railway museum where you can learn all about trains and how they helped build Canada. You can find it just south-east of Wetaskiwin.

The main building at the museum looks like a smaller version of an old train station. This station was built in 1907 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Inside, you'll find a waiting room, a baggage room, and even a telegraph office, just like in the old days. There are also lots of cool exhibits and old train artifacts to explore.

What You Can See at the Museum

The museum has many different types of real train equipment. You can see big train engines, called locomotives. There's also a special sleeper car where people used to sleep on long journeys. You can also explore passenger coaches, freight equipment, and cabooses. These are the small cars at the very end of a freight train. They even have a snowplough train!

Model Trains and Old Rail Yards

One of the fun attractions is a model train layout. This model shows what the original Wetaskiwin railyard looked like a long time ago. It's a great way to see how trains were organized.

The Historic Grain Elevator

The museum also has a very old grain elevator from 1906. This elevator used to be in a place called Hobbema. It's special because it's known to be the second-oldest grain elevator in all of Alberta! Grain elevators were very important for storing crops from farms.

Take a Train Ride!

One of the most exciting things to do at the museum is take a ride on a real train! They have a one-mile loop of track where you can experience what it's like to ride on a historic train. It's a great way to imagine what travel was like many years ago.
