A Look at Alcorcón's Past
People have lived in the Alcorcón area since ancient times. The city's name comes from Arabic. We don't know much about Alcorcón before the Reconquista. This was a long period when Christian kingdoms took back land from Muslim rule in Spain.
The first time Alcorcón was mentioned in writing was on July 28, 1208. This was in a court document about land arguments. These arguments were between the cities of Madrid and Segovia a long time ago.
The main church in Alcorcón, called Santa María la Blanca, was built in the 1500s and 1600s. Until the 1960s, Alcorcón was a small farming village. After that, it grew very quickly. Modern buildings now surround the old village center.
