The first time Aldrans was written about was in a document from the year 955. It was called Alarein back then. Later, in 1157, the village was mentioned again. This was in papers about a gift between the Counts of Andechs and the Tegernsee Abbey. In 1312, a document used the name Alrains. This name came from an older name, Allrainer Veld.

Aldrans in the Middle Ages

During the Middle Ages, Aldrans was an important market town. It worked with the nearby town of Ampass. This was because it was on the salt road. Being on this road meant it benefited from trade. In the 1200s, the land was split. Some belonged to the ruler, and some to the Abbey of Wilten.

Aldrans in Recent History

People in Aldrans loved plays! In 1750 and 1757, they even held play competitions called Martinsspiele. There was also a special "Theatre of the Amazons" where only women performed. In the 1800s, Aldrans became a popular place for summer vacations. By 1884, a road directly connected it to Innsbruck.

A radio station was built near the village in 1927. It stopped working on March 1, 1984, and was later taken down. Aldrans is also mentioned in a story called Amras by the writer Thomas Bernhard.

St. Martin parish church

The main attraction in Aldrans is the St. Martin parish church. A church in Aldrans was first mentioned in 1365. In 1426, people started building a new church. It was finished in 1482 and dedicated to Saint Martin.

Changes to the Church Over Time

The church was changed to a Gothic style in the 1700s. Sadly, in 1893, a fire destroyed part of the village, including the church. It was then rebuilt in the Gothic style. In 1965, the church was made bigger. Two years later, in 1967, it became a parish church.

Aldrans is well-connected to Innsbruck. You can take the Mittelgebirgsbahn (Highlands railway) Line 6. Or, you can use local buses from Innsbruck. The journey usually takes about 15 minutes.
