Alec Newman is a Scottish actor born on November 27, 1974. He is well-known for his roles in movies, TV shows, and video games. You might know him as Paul Atreides from the TV miniseries Dune. He also voiced Adam Smasher in Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Recently, he played the main character, Cameron "Caz" McLeary, in the game Still Wakes the Deep.

Early Life

Alec Newman was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His father, Sandy Newman, is a member of the Scottish band Marmalade. Alec also has a brother, John James Newman. John appeared on The Voice UK in 2012.

Before becoming an actor, Alec thought about being a professional footballer. He joined the National Youth Theatre in London when he was 17. Later, he studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Acting Career

After finishing his studies, Alec Newman started getting roles in TV shows and movies. His big break came when he landed the main role in the Sci Fi Channel's miniseries Frank Herbert's Dune. This show even won an Emmy award!

Playing Paul Atreides in Dune led to many more roles in American TV and films. He was chosen to play Barnabas Collins in a new version of Dark Shadows. Even though the show wasn't picked up, Alec's performance was praised.

In 2004, Alec starred in the Hallmark Channel's Frankenstein. He acted alongside famous stars like William Hurt and Donald Sutherland. This miniseries received good reviews and also won an Emmy.

From 2011 to 2013, Alec played Michael Byrne, a head teacher, in the BBC school drama Waterloo Road. He also had regular roles in shows like The Bastard Executioner, Rogue, and Strike Back. These roles often involved action.

Alec has worked with well-known directors such as Tomas Alfredson, Amma Asante, and George Clooney. He often plays characters who are interesting and sometimes face tough choices. For example, in the BBC's Showtrial and Karen Pirie, his characters dealt with moral conflicts.
