Nicanor Alejandro Serrano Aguilar (born January 13, 1933, died August 6, 2019) was an important person from Ecuador. He was a politician and also a leader in sports.
Biography
Nicanor Serrano Aguilar served as the Vice President of Ecuador. This was from May 5, 2005, until January 15, 2007. The National Congress of Ecuador chose him for this role. He became Vice President when Alfredo Palacio became the President of Ecuador. During his career, Mr. Serrano was a mayor, a councilman, a sports leader, and a civil engineer.
Education and Early Career
Nicanor Serrano went to school at Escuela de los Hermanos Cristianos. He then attended junior and senior high school at the Colegio de los Padres Jesuitas. For his higher education, he studied at the University of Cuenca. He first joined the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature. Later, he studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the same university. He earned two Ph.D. degrees. One was in Philosophy and Literature, and the other was in engineering.
Mr. Serrano worked as a teacher at several schools. These included Coegio Rafael Borja and Colegio Benigno Malo. He also taught at Garaicoa Colegio and Colegio Rosa de Jesús Cordero. He served as president of Colegio Fray Vicente Solano. Later, he became the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature at the University of Cuenca. He also taught at the Faculty of Law, University del Azuay.
Public Service and Politics
Nicanor Serrano served as a board member for the city of Cuenca. After that, he became a member of the House of Representatives. This was at the provincial level in the Azuay Province. He was then elected governor of Azuay Province. He also served twice as a provincial deputy in the National Parliament. Mr. Serrano also held the position of mayor of Cuenca. He was married and had four children.
