Alejandro "Alex" Barrett is an American professional football player. He was born on March 6, 1994. Alex plays as a defensive end, which is a position on the defense that tries to stop the other team's offense. He played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs.

Early Life and High School
Alex Barrett grew up in Yuma, Arizona. He went to Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Arizona. While there, he was a star football player. He earned "first-team all-state" honors twice, which means he was one of the best players in the entire state. Alex also participated in track and field.
College Football Career
Alex played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs from 2013 to 2016. He spent his first year, 2012, as a "redshirt," which means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games.
Key College Achievements
- In 2013, he played in 12 games and started to show his skills.
- By 2014, he was starting in all 10 games he played. He was recognized with an Honorable Mention All-Mountain West award.
- His 2015 season was very strong. He started all 14 games and was named First-team All-Mountain West.
- In 2016, Alex continued to excel, earning First-team All-Mountain West honors again. This made him the first defensive lineman from San Diego State to achieve this multiple times. He was also a team captain in his senior year.
Alex played in 50 college games, starting 38 of them. He recorded 19 sacks during his college career, which was tied for the fourth-most in his school's history.
Professional Football Journey
Alex Barrett began his professional career after college. He was not chosen in the 2017 NFL Draft, but he soon signed with a team.
Detroit Lions
Alex signed with the Detroit Lions in May 2017. He spent time on their main roster and their practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the active game-day roster. He was with the Lions until November 2018.
San Diego Fleet
In November 2018, Alex joined the San Diego Fleet. This team was part of a new league called the Alliance of American Football (AAF). He played in 8 games for the Fleet, making 15 tackles and 2 sacks, before the league stopped playing.
Oakland Raiders
After the AAF league ended, Alex signed with the Oakland Raiders in April 2019. He was later released by the team.
San Francisco 49ers
