Career highlights

Alex Pearce is a well-known Australian rules footballer. He was born on June 9, 1995, in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Alex is the captain of the Fremantle Football Club, which plays in the top league, the Australian Football League (AFL). He became the team's captain in 2023.

Early Life and Football Beginnings

Alex grew up in Ulverstone, Tasmania. His parents are Karen and Scott. He is also from the Palawa Indigenous people. When he was young, Alex played both football and cricket for local clubs. A talent scout named Troy Davies noticed his skills. Alex then played for the Under 16 Tasmanian team in 2011. He also did very well at the Under 18 carnival in 2012, which helped him get noticed by AFL teams.

Joining the AFL

Alex was chosen by the Fremantle Football Club in the 2013 AFL draft. He was the 37th player picked overall. Before joining Fremantle, he played for the Devonport Football Club in the Tasmanian State League. In his junior years, Alex mostly played as a key forward. However, when he moved to Fremantle, he started playing as a key defender. He played for Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Peel Thunder is Fremantle's reserve team.

Alex Pearce's AFL Career

Alex made his first AFL appearance for Fremantle in 2015. This was in Round 6 against Essendon. He took the place of an injured player, Luke McPharlin. Alex was the first player to make his debut for Fremantle that year. He is not related to other players named Pearce who were his teammates.

Overcoming Injuries

Alex faced some tough injuries during his career. He broke his leg in 2016 and missed all of the 2017 season. He worked hard to recover and returned to play in Round 1 of the 2018 season. He played 21 games that year, becoming a very important defender for Fremantle.

In 2019, Alex started the season playing incredibly well. Many thought he might be chosen for the All-Australian team. However, he broke his ankle in Round 11 and missed the rest of that season. He then missed the entire 2020 season because of problems with his ankle recovery. In 2021, he had a knee injury in Round 1. He played a few games in the WAFL before returning to the Fremantle team in Round 13. He finished that season playing the last nine games strongly.

Becoming Captain

In 2022, Alex was a stand-in captain for Fremantle for much of the season. This was because the main captain, Nat Fyfe, was dealing with injuries. Alex played 21 games that year, which was his career high at the time. On February 23, 2023, Alex was officially named the captain of the Fremantle Football Club. He took over from Nat Fyfe.

He played his first game as captain in the opening round of the 2023 season. He played his 100th AFL game in Round 17 of that year. In Round 20, he was one of Fremantle's best players in a close win against Geelong. He finished the 2023 season having played every game.

Alex started the 2024 season in excellent form. He was very good at stopping some of the league's best forwards. He led the Dockers to a great start, winning their first three games. Some people in the media even thought he might be chosen for the All-Australian team again. In Round 11, Fremantle played Collingwood. In the final minutes of the game, with Collingwood ahead, Alex moved forward. He kicked a goal that helped Fremantle get a draw. Unfortunately, he injured his forearm in Round 15 and missed three games. He returned in Round 19 but reinjured the same arm, which meant he missed the rest of the 2024 season.

Personal Life

Alex is currently studying Psychology at Deakin University. In 2021, he was recognized as Deakin University's Indigenous Sportsperson of the Year.
