Alexander Mullenbach (born in 1949) is a talented musician from Luxembourg. He is a skilled pianist, a composer who writes music, and a conductor who leads orchestras. Since 2002, he has been in charge of the International Summer Academy at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, which is a famous music school.

A Musical Journey

Alexander Mullenbach was born in Luxembourg City on January 23, 1949. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris and at the Salzburg Mozarteum. There, he learned to play the piano, play music with groups (chamber music), and create his own compositions. His teachers included famous musicians like Gerhard Wimberger and Cesar Bresgen.

From 1970, Mullenbach taught piano at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg. Later, in 1981, he also started teaching composition there. He has also taught at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Since 1978, Alexander Mullenbach has written over 100 pieces of music. This includes thirteen works for a full symphony orchestra and even an opera. Leading Music Organizations

Mullenbach has also played important roles in music organizations. He was the founder and leader of the Luxembourg New Music Society (LGNM) from 1983 to 1994. He also served as the president of the Luxembourg National Music Council from 2000 to 2007.

From 2002 to 2013, he was the director of the International Summer Academy of Mozarteum Salzburg. He was also the artistic director of the Echternach Festival from 2007 to 2013. He helped start Luxembourg Music Publishers (LMP) and is its vice-chairman. In 2015, he received an honorary doctorate from a music university in Romania. This special title recognized his great contributions to music.

  • 2002: He took on the role of director for the Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg.
  • 2007: He became the artistic director of the Festival International Echternach in Luxembourg.
  • 2013: He co-founded and became the Vice-Chairman of Luxembourg Music Publishers.
  • 2015: He received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Romania.
