Alexandria is a small city located in central Hanson County, South Dakota, in the United States. It's the main town, also known as the county seat, for Hanson County. In 2020, about 649 people lived there.

History of Alexandria
Alexandria started as a community in 1879. It was first called Clarksville. A post office was set up in 1880. The city officially became a town, or "incorporated," in 1885. At that time, its name was changed to Alexandria. The city was named after a person named Alexander Mitchell.
