Alexandros Paschalakis (Greek: Αλέξανδρος Πασχαλάκης) is a Greek professional footballer. He was born on July 28, 1989. He plays as a goalkeeper for the Super League club Olympiacos. He also plays for the Greece national team.

Club Career

Early Football Days

Alexandros Paschalakis started playing football in Terpsithea. He spent a year in the youth team of AEK. Then, he was with the youth team of Olympiacos for two years, from 2003 to 2005. After that, he joined the team of Ilioupoli. When he was 17, he moved to the youth team of Galatasaray. However, he could not sign a contract there. This was because of rules about how many foreign players a team could have.

He signed with Levadiakos in the summer of 2008. In the summer of 2012, he signed with PAEEK. A team called Akhisar was interested in him, but he decided not to move there. After returning to Greece, he signed with Panthrakikos in January 2014. He played 13 matches for them until January 2016.

Playing for PAS Giannina

Paschalakis joined PAS Giannina on January 26, 2016. He joined to take the place of another player who moved to PAOK. He did not play any games in his first six months with the team.

In the 2016–17 season, Paschalakis had a great year. He played in 27 games, including four matches in the UEFA Europa League. He managed to keep a "clean sheet" (meaning he didn't let the other team score) in nine games. Because of his strong performances, big clubs like PAOK, Asteras Tripoli, and Panathinaikos became interested in him. On August 1, 2017, Paschalakis left PAS Giannina.

Time at PAOK

On August 7, 2017, Paschalakis signed a one-year contract with PAOK. He made his first appearance for PAOK on December 2, 2017. This was in an away game against Xanthi, which PAOK won 3–0. The very next day, he signed a new contract with the club. This new contract would keep him at PAOK until the summer of 2020. His earnings increased, and his release clause was set around €5 million.

He was first planned to be a backup goalkeeper. But the coach, Răzvan Lucescu, gave him a chance to play. Paschalakis quickly became PAOK's main goalkeeper. By February 4, 2018, Paschalakis set a new record for PAOK. He went 971 minutes without letting a goal in. This is the longest time for a PAOK goalkeeper without conceding a goal. He broke the record of Kostas Chalkias. PAOK had the best defense in the Superleague, letting in only seven goals in 19 matches. This was largely thanks to Paschalakis's excellent saves.

On August 8, 2018, Paschalakis made an important penalty save. This was against Quincy Promes of Spartak Moscow. The save happened in a UEFA Champions League qualifying game. PAOK won that game 3–2, and his save helped them keep the lead.

In the first half of the 2018–19 season, Paschalakis played every minute of the league games. He only let in six goals in 15 matches. He also had an impressive nine clean sheets. On January 17, 2019, Paschalakis signed another new contract with PAOK, lasting until 2022.

On April 25, 2019, he made many important saves in a Greek Cup semifinal game. This helped PAOK defend their Greek Cup title. PAOK drew 0–0 in that game, which meant they won 2–0 overall. For the third year in a row, PAOK met AEK Athens in the Greek Cup final.

Playing for Greece

On October 5, 2018, the coach of the Greece national team, Michael Skibbe, called up Paschalakis. This was for upcoming 2018–19 UEFA Nations League matches. Paschalakis said, "All players dream of someday representing their country, and I am happy for this opportunity. I waited for a long time for this call." On May 30, 2019, he played his first game for Greece. It was a friendly match against Turkey, which Greece lost 2–1.

Personal Life

Paschalakis comes from a place called Serres in Greece.
