Ali Hadi Bara (born September 9, 1906 – died August 30, 1971) was a famous Turkish sculptor. He was one of the first important artists from the time when Turkey became a republic. He created many impressive sculptures, including monuments of important historical figures.

Ali Hadi Bara's Life

Ali Hadi Bara was born in Tehran, a city in Iran. When he was young, his family moved to the Ottoman Empire, which is now mostly Turkey.

He loved art and studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul from 1923 to 1927. After that, he traveled to Paris, France, to learn even more about sculpture. In Paris, he studied with famous sculptors like Henri Bouchard and Charles Despiau.

In 1930, Ali Hadi Bara returned to Istanbul. He became an assistant teacher at the Fine Arts Academy where he had once been a student. He visited Paris again between 1949 and 1950. After this trip, his art changed. He stopped making sculptures that looked exactly like people or objects (called figural works). Instead, he started creating non-figural sculptures, which are more abstract.

From 1950 until he passed away in 1971, he continued to work at the Academy in Istanbul. He taught many new artists and left behind a great artistic legacy.
