Alice Lake is a beautiful alpine lake located in Blaine County, Idaho, United States. It sits high up in the amazing Sawtooth Mountains. This area is part of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Alice Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Sawtooth Wilderness. It's a great spot for adventurers and nature lovers.

Getting to Alice Lake

Reaching Alice Lake is an exciting journey. The easiest way to get there is by starting at Pettit Lake. You can find Pettit Lake by taking State Highway 75. Then, turn onto Sawtooth National Forest road 208.

The Hiking Trail

The main trail to Alice Lake begins at the end of the Pettit Lake campground. The hike to the lake is about 5.5 mi (8.9 km) long. During this hike, you will climb about 1,600 feet (490 m) higher. This means the trail goes uphill quite a bit.

The path crosses five streams. Only the last stream crossing has a bridge. So, be ready for some fun stream hopping!

What Makes Alice Lake Special?

Alice Lake is known for its stunning beauty and unique features. It sits at an elevation of 8,602 feet (2,622 m) above sea level. Because it is so high up, the lake can stay frozen until early summer. This makes for some amazing views!

Wilderness Rules

Alice Lake is located inside the Sawtooth Wilderness. This means it's a protected area where nature is kept wild. If you plan to visit, you need a wilderness permit. You can get these permits at a special box along the trail. This box is located at the wilderness boundary, near the upstream end of Pettit Lake. These permits help protect the natural beauty for everyone.
