Alisal (/ˈælɪsæl/) is a neighborhood in Salinas, California. It is located in Monterey County. The name "Alisal" comes from the Spanish word for "Sycamore grove." People sometimes call this area East Salinas.
Alisal is found east of downtown Salinas. It sits at an elevation of 89 feet (27 meters). In 1963, the area officially became part of Salinas. Alisal is also home to Alisal High School.
Alisal's Post Office History
The first post office in Alisal opened in 1866. It closed a few years later in 1869. Mail services then moved to Gabilan.
A new post office, called East Salinas, opened in 1940. In 1947, its name changed to Alisal. Then, in 1949, it was renamed East Salinas again. Finally, in 1950, it became Alisal once more. Today, Alisal's ZIP Code is 93905.
