Alison Brie Schermerhorn (born December 29, 1982) is an American actress, writer, and producer. She is well-known for her roles in popular TV shows like Mad Men, Community, BoJack Horseman, and GLOW. She has also starred in many movies, including The Lego Movie series and Promising Young Woman. Alison Brie has also written and produced some of her own films.

Early life

Alison Brie Schermerhorn was born on December 29, 1982, in Hollywood, California. Her father, Charles Terry Schermerhorn, is a musician and reporter. Her mother, Joanne Brenner, works for a non-profit organization that helps children. Alison has an older sister named Lauren. Her mother is Jewish, and her father has a mix of Dutch, English, and Scottish family roots.

Alison graduated from South Pasadena High School in 2001. Before starting college, she even worked as a clown for children's birthday parties! She later studied theater at the California Institute of the Arts and spent a year studying in Glasgow, Scotland, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Career

Alison Brie started acting on stage at a Jewish Community Center in Southern California. Her first TV role was in 2006 on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, where she played a new hairdresser.

She became more widely known for playing Trudy Campbell in the TV drama Mad Men from 2007 to 2015. For this role, she won an award with the rest of the cast. From 2009 to 2015, she starred as Annie Edison in the comedy show Community. This role earned her nominations for acting awards.

Alison also took on many movie roles. She was Rebecca Walters in the horror film Scream 4 (2011) and Suzie Barnes in the romantic comedy The Five-Year Engagement (2012). She also lent her voice to Princess Unikitty in the animated movie The Lego Movie (2014) and its sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019).

In 2014, she joined the cast of the Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman, voicing the main character Diane Nguyen and others. She also appeared on the show Lip Sync Battle, where she won against actor Will Arnett.

In 2015, she played a role in the comedy film Get Hard. The next year, she starred in the romantic comedy How to Be Single.

From 2017 to 2019, Alison Brie starred as Ruth Wilder in the Netflix comedy-drama series GLOW. This show was inspired by a real-life 1980s women's wrestling group. Her performance in GLOW was highly praised, and she received nominations for major awards like the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In 2020, Alison starred in the drama thriller film Promising Young Woman. That same year, she also wrote, produced, and starred in the Netflix drama film Horse Girl. She then acted alongside Dan Stevens in the horror film The Rental, which was directed by her husband, Dave Franco. She also appeared in the romantic comedy Happiest Season.

More recently, in 2022, Alison Brie starred in and co-wrote the film Spin Me Round. In 2023, she wrote, starred in, and was an executive producer for the romantic comedy film Somebody I Used to Know, which was also co-written and directed by her husband, Dave Franco. This movie became very popular on Amazon Prime Video. She also voiced a character named Aftershock in the Disney Channel animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Looking ahead, Alison Brie is set to appear in the TV series Apples Never Fall and will play Evil-Lyn in the upcoming live-action movie Masters of the Universe.

Alison Brie started dating actor Dave Franco in 2012. They met at a party in New Orleans in 2011. They got engaged in 2015 and were married on March 13, 2017. Alison has mentioned that she does not plan to have children.
