The Allobates fratisenescus, also known as the Mera Rocket Frog, is a small species of frog. It belongs to the Aromobatidae family, which includes many types of poison dart frogs. This special frog is found only in Ecuador.

About the Mera Rocket Frog

The Mera Rocket Frog was first described in the year 2000. It is a type of frog that lives on land, often near streams or wet areas. Like all frogs, it starts its life as a tadpole in water before changing into an adult frog.

Where Does It Live?

This frog is endemic to Ecuador. This means it is found naturally nowhere else in the world. Specifically, it lives in the upper parts of the Pastaza River drainage. This area is on the eastern side of the Cordillera Oriental, which is a mountain range in the Andes.

Its natural habitat is the tropical rainforest. Tropical rainforests are warm, wet forests with many tall trees and a huge variety of plants and animals. These forests are very important for many species, including the Mera Rocket Frog.

Why Is It Important?

The Allobates fratisenescus is listed as Vulnerable (VU) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This means that its population is decreasing, and it faces a high risk of becoming extinct in the wild. Protecting its rainforest habitat is very important to help this unique frog survive.
