Almanor (which used to be called Plumas Pines) is a very small place in Plumas County, California, United States. It's known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not an official town or city. In 2020, only 3 people lived there! Almanor is located about 7 miles (11 km) south-southeast of Chester.
How Almanor Got Its Name
The name "Almanor" has a special story. It comes from the names of three daughters of a man named Guy C. Earl. He was the president of a company called Great Western Power Co. The names of his daughters were Alice, Martha, and Elinor. The first post office in Almanor opened in 1926.

Almanor is located at 40°13′1″N 121°10′38″W. It sits on the southwest shoreline of Lake Almanor.
The United States Census Bureau says that Almanor covers a total area of about 0.9 square miles (2.3 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
Who Lives in Almanor?
Almanor was first listed as a census-designated place in the year 2000. At that time, there were 74 houses, but no one was living there.
According to the 2010 Census, there were still no people living in Almanor. However, by the 2020 Census, the population had grown to 3 people!
