Alonso de Escobar (1545–1613) was an important Spanish military officer. He played a key role in the early history of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He served as a Regidor, which was like a town council member, during the time of the Viceroyalty of Peru. This was when much of South America was ruled by Spain.

Early Life and Family
Alonso de Escobar was born in Asunción, which is now the capital city of Paraguay. His father was Alonso de Escobar y Cáceres, a famous conquistador. Conquistadors were Spanish explorers and soldiers who helped conquer new lands for Spain.
Alonso de Escobar married Inés Suares de Toledo in Asunción. Her father, Martín Suárez de Toledo, was a governor of Paraguay. This shows that Alonso came from a well-connected family.
Helping to Build Buenos Aires
One of Alonso de Escobar's most important actions was helping to establish the city of Buenos Aires. He was one of 63 people who joined Juan de Garay in 1580. This group helped to found Buenos Aires for the second time.
The first attempt to create Buenos Aires had failed. So, Alonso de Escobar was part of the brave group that successfully built the city we know today. His work as a Regidor meant he helped govern the new settlement. He made important decisions for the growing community.
Alonso de Escobar lived until 1613. He passed away in Buenos Aires, the city he helped to build.
