In 1527, Alonso de Solís joined a large expedition led by Pánfilo de Narváez. This journey aimed to explore and claim new lands in what is now Florida. Solís was one of about six hundred men on this trip, which included other famous explorers like Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca.

His job on the expedition was to be the royal inspector of mines. This meant he was responsible for checking and managing any valuable minerals found in the new territories. The expedition explored areas between the Rio de Palmas and Cape Florida.

Governor of Florida

Alonso de Solís was appointed governor of Florida in April 1576. This was a very important leadership role. However, his time as governor was very short. He died on July 4, 1576, just a few months after taking office.
