Erigeron alpiniformis is a special kind of flowering plant. It belongs to the daisy family, just like the common daisies you might see in a field! People often call it alpine fleabane. It's quite rare and grows in very cold, Arctic places.
About Alpine Fleabane
Erigeron alpiniformis is a unique plant. It was first described in 1947 by a scientist named Cronquist. This plant is a small, branching shrub. It usually grows to be about 20 centimeters (or 8 inches) tall. That's not very big at all!
Where it Lives
This rare plant is found in only a few places in the world. You can find it in Greenland, which is also known as Kalaallit Nunaat and is part of Denmark. It also grows in parts of Canada, specifically in Labrador and Nunavut. These are all very cold, northern regions.
What it Looks Like
The Erigeron alpiniformis plant has pretty flowers. Each plant usually has one or two flower heads, but sometimes it can have three or four. Each flower head looks a lot like a daisy.
- Center: In the middle of each flower head, there are many tiny yellow flowers. These are called disc florets.
- Petals: Around the yellow center, there's a ring of 100 to 200 "petals." These are actually special flowers called ray florets. They can be white or a lovely pinkish-purple color.
