Altaf Fatima (Urdu: الطاف فاطمہ; born June 10, 1927 – died November 29, 2018) was a famous Pakistani writer. She wrote many novels and short stories. She was also a teacher who specialized in the works of Muhammad Iqbal, a famous poet.
Altaf Fatima was born in Lucknow, which was part of British India at the time. When India was divided in 1947, she moved to Lahore, Pakistan. There, she studied at the University of the Punjab and earned her master's degree.
Her novel Dastak Na Do (which means "Do not Knock") is considered one of the most important books in the Urdu language. This book was even made into a TV show in Pakistan. A shorter version of it was also published in a magazine called Herald.
In 2018, Altaf Fatima won an award for her book Deed Wadeed at the 9th Karachi Literature Festival. She passed away later that year.
