Altnagelvin is a place in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Its name comes from Irish, meaning "Glen/height of the sparrows". It's also an area, or electoral ward, within the Derry and Strabane district.
Altnagelvin used to be a small village. Now, it's part of the Waterside area of Derry city. A very important place here is Altnagelvin Area Hospital. This large hospital helps people from most of the county. The busy A6 road, which connects Belfast to Derry, goes right through Altnagelvin.
