Alton's History
Alton was officially planned out in 1859. The city got its name from Alton, Illinois, another city. A post office has been open in Alton since 1860. Alton became an official city in 1929.
A special place called Greer Mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. This means it's an important historical site.
